To provide salary support for two Program Directors who are participating in a national Teach For America pilot project that will test whether a lower Program Director to corps member ratio will yield more significant academic gains for their students. Each of the two Program Directors will support 30 corps members rather than the typical load of 50, giving them more time to spend observing corps members and developing new strategies and approaches to address obstacles to student achievement. This year, 1000 corps members are teaching in 300 New York City public schools, reaching some 75,000 students.
